You can instruct ScreenAlarm to monitor your computer and display icons whenever:

email is received (Microsoft® Outlook or any other MAPI client),
a message box is shown, or
a file that you are interested in gets updated.

Eventually, ScreenAlarm could capture any event! For example, if you are a proud CheXpy user, you can create a 'File update' notification, indicate CheXpy log file as a target and you'll be notified about SourceSafe events...

The history:

ScreenAlarm was inspired by a real accident with my friend. He was talking to me in front of his computer and the screensaver showed up on his computer screen. When after our half-hour discussion was over and my friend pressed a button he cried 'Oh my God! I should've been picking up my son from school twenty minutes ago! My wife will kill me...'
I felt guilty myself, so I promised to do everything possible to 'save the day.' I called my friend's wife and apologized for keeping her husband while he was supposed to be out. I then wrote a first version of ScreenAlarm and presented it to my friend. Since that time he has never missed any important event, and his family life got much better :-)

Please note that there is no any other screensaver that could deliver you notification about events that happen on your PC while screensaver is on. I've found only one smart email client which comes with it's own screensaver. The main advantage of ScreenAlarm is that you don't need to sacrifice your favorite screensaver for the ability to keep informed about emails, etc., while computer is idling.
